The stars are coming out tonight for the 83rd annual Golden Globe awards. It’s been a tough year for Hollywood — from the January 2025 fires in Los Angeles, to artificial intelligence creeping into the industry, lackluster box office numbers, and political unrest unfolding across the nation. But that’s not stopping the biggest names from film and television from taking the red carpet ahead of the ceremony, which will be hosted for a second year in a row by comedian Nikki Glaser. Here, a gallery of the best, worst, and most surprising looks from the nominees.

Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami

It would only make sense for the stars behind “Golden” to show up at the 2026 Golden Globes. The singing trio behind HUNTR/X turned heads as they arrived separately on the red carpet: Rei Ami rocked a black lace dress paired with a diamond-encrusted necklace, Ejae opted for a strapless black gown with lace accents, while Audrey Nuna wore her hair in a dramatic oversized braid, her face partially covered by an elegant veil. “We never thought it would actually happen, so to break the fourth wall like this has been amazing,” Ejae told the Associated Press on the carpet of Kpop Demon Hunters, which is nominated for three awards.

Teyana Taylor

Teyana Taylor made our jaws drop when she hit the Golden Globes red carpet. Outside of their SmartLess duties, Jason Bateman starred in Zootopia 2— which is nominated for Best Motion Picture – Animated — while Will Arnett and Sean Hayes appeared together in Is This Thing On?

Matt Winkelmeyer/GA/The Hollywood Reporter

Owen Cooper

At just 15, Owen Cooper became the youngest male actor to win a Primetime Emmy for his portrayal of Jamie Miller in Adolescence, a devastating Netflix miniseries that chronicled how a teenage boy can fall into the manosphere, with deadly results. He arrived in a boxy, military inspired tan suit for the the Golden Globes, where he is nominated for the same performance.

Frazer Harrison/WireImage/Getty Images

Amy Madigan

Matt Winkelmeyer/GA/The Hollywood Reporter

Natasha Lyonne and Clea DuVall

"I was rejected and disappointed that my voice wasn't good enough," singer EJAE said about her start as a K-pop trainee. "Now, I'm here as a singer and a songwriter"

EJAE delivered an emotional speech as she accepted the award for Best Original Song, Motion Picture, at the 2026 Golden Globes. EJAE, Mark Sonnenblick, and 24Ido took the stage to receive the trophy for the KPop Demon Hunters hit “Golden.”The win makes EJAE the first Korean-American to be awarded at the Golden Globes.

“When I was a little girl, I worked tirelessly for 10 years to fulfill one dream: to become a K-pop idol. I was rejected and disappointed that my voice wasn’t good enough, so I leaned on songs and music to get through it,” EJAE said onstage. “Now, I’m here as a singer and a songwriter.”

She continued: “It’s a dream come true to be part of a song that is helping other girls, other boys, and everyone of all ages to get through hardship and accept themselves. So thank you, Golden Globes, for accepting my voice and our voice.”

Sonnenblic also shared a thank you to Netflix and Sony, as well as their teams. “This award goes to the people who have had their doors closed on them. I can confidently say that rejection is redirection. Never give up, it’s never too late to shine like you’re born to be,” she concluded, referencing the lyrics of “Golden.”

“Golden” appeared in the Best Original Song — Motion Picture category alongside “Dream as One” from Avatar: Fire and Ash, written by Miley Cyrus, Simon Franglen, Mark Ronson, and Andrew Wyatt; “I Lied to You” from Sinners, written by Ludwig Göransson and Raphael Saadiq; “Train Dreams” from Train Dreams, written by Nick Cave and Bryce Dessner; and “No Place LIke Home” and “The Girl in the Bubble” from Wicked: For Good, both written by Stephen Schwartz.

EJAE performs “Golden” alongside Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami as the singing voices of the fictional act HUNTR/X in KPop Demon Hunters. “I really resonated with Rumi,” EJAE told Rolling Stone about her character last year. “She’s such a perfectionist and trying to hide her shame, hide her flaws. And that’s a huge part of when you’re training. You’re trying to put your best foot forward. ‘Golden’ really means a lot to me, because I feel like at that time, I needed a song like that.”

KPop Demon Hunters scored two additional nominations at the 2026 Golden Globes beyond the nod for “Golden.” The popular Netflix release landed in the running for Best Motion Picture, Animated and Cinematic, and Box Office Achievement.

“Golden” has spent 28 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at Number One. Next month, the song has a chance to win in five categories at the 2026 Grammy Awards, including Song of the Year. “To say this was my dream is an understatement,” EJAE wrote on Instagram when the nominations were revealed. “This wouldn’t be possible without the fans of the movie who have shown us so much support.”

It’s been 10 years since Bruno Mars‘ seminal record, 24K Magic — and now, his highly anticipated fourth solo album, titled The Romantic, is finally ready.

On Wednesday, Jan. 7, Mars revealed the album’s Feb. 27 release date, as well as its cover. He also said new music would arrive on Friday, Jan. 9.

Mars confirmed The Romantic just a couple days after revealing that he had completed his upcoming record. At the time, he shared few details about the LP to come, writing only on X: “My album is done.”

While this will be his first solo album since the 2016 classic that featured hits like “That’s What I Like,” “Versace on the Floor,” and “Finesse,” he also linked up with Anderson .Paak to form Silk Sonic and dropped the 2021 duo LP, An Evening With Silk Sonic.

24K Magic was unequivocally one of the most successful modern albums, winning the star seven Grammys, including Album of the Year, Record of the Year for the title track, and Song of the Year for “That’s What I Like.” The Silk Sonic record also received acclaim, especially with lead single “Leave the Door Open,” which won both Record and Song of the Year at the 2022 Grammys, along with two other trophies. (The duo decided not to submit the album itself for consideration, despite being a top contender. “We thank the Grammys for allowing us to perform on their platform — not once but twice — and awarding us at last year’s ceremony,” Mars told Rolling Stone at the time. “We’d be crazy to ask for anything more.”)

After the Silk Sonic era, Mars returned with several massive duets including “Fat, Juicy & Wet” with Sexyy Redd and “Die With a Smile,” the smash hit with Lady Gaga, which won a Grammy at the 2025 awards show. He also linked up with Rosé for “APT” at the end of 2024 and the collab gained three Grammy nominations at next month’s awards show, including Record and Song of the Year.

This story was updated 1/7/25 @ 3:30 p.m. ET after Mars revealed the cover, release date, and title for The Romantic.

David Bowie‘s “Heroes” might be stuck in your head after that iconic Stranger Things finale — and it’s being streamed by thousands of people, too. According to new Luminate data acquired by Rolling Stone on Monday, the classic track, which soundtracked the end credits of Stranger Things‘ Dec. 31 finale, saw a jump of almost 500 percent on streaming services.

On average, the 1977 song has been earning about 94,000 digital streams daily over the last five months. But after New Year’s Eve — when the song was used in the Netflix show’s final episode — it logged a rounded 342,000 streams on Jan. 1, 456,000 on Jan. 2, and 470,000 on Jan. 3, marking a roughly 3.6-to-5 times jump over its daily average in the days following the finale’s drop.

In a Monday interview with Netflix’s outlet Tudum, the Duffer Brothers revealed that it was Joe Keery, who plays Steve Harrington in the show, who suggested that the Bowie song would be the perfect way to conclude the show during its end-credits segment. It was also a nostalgic nod to the Peter Gabriel cover of the song that was featured in earlier seasons.

“It was actually Joe Keery who suggested that we do the Bowie version,” Ross Duffer told the outlet. “Once Joe said that, we immediately knew that was the right song to end the show on because it is, in some ways, an anthem for Stranger Things. To use the original Bowie version just felt fitting for the conclusion.”

Speaking of Keery, the actor’s artist project Djo also saw a surge on streaming following the finale. His song “End of Beginning,” originally dropped in 2022, climbed its way to Number One on the Spotify Global Chart this week — replacing Taylor Swift’s “The Fate of Ophelia,” which held the position for weeks.

Stranger Things slayed at helping revive Eighties culture and music throughout its run, especially with its song choices. The show’s finale also featured two classic Prince songs, “When Doves Cry” and “Purple Rain,” and Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” returned to the charts in 2022 after being featured in Season Four.

The Duffer Brothers knew they would need several songs for key parts of the last episode after they figured out they’d have a record player serve as the trigger for the bomb that would end the bridge connecting the world to the Upside Down. Ross Duffer told Tudum they “never talked about a song choice as much as we did for that moment,” adding: “We knew we needed an epic needle drop, and so many ideas were thrown around. I think there’s nothing really more epic than Prince.” When it came to hitting those two moods, side two of Purple Rain “lined up perfectly for us,” Ross said.

According to Variety, since the finale aired on New Year’s Eve, “Purple Rain” has seen a 243 percent jump in streams on Spotify, with a 577 percent surge among global Gen Z listeners.

The single precedes his upcoming Tim Burton-assisted album Don't Be Dumb, out Jan. 16

A$AP Rocky has a new dark, trippy world to introduce. On Monday, the rap star unleashed a chaotic visual for his new single “Punk Rocky,” featuring appearances from Winona Ryder, Thundercat, and Danny Elfman.

The video opens with Ryder lounging on a plastic lounge chair, unfazed, while her muscular partner paces nearby, yelling into his phone. From there, Rocky emerges from a garage with rollers in his hair, jumping into a mosh pit and taking a hit to the face. Police soon arrive, rounding up Rocky and his friends and pushing them into a squad car, as the camera focuses on his bruised, speaking eye.

“I wanna fall in love, don’t want no broken heart/Don’t wanna grow apart,” Rocky repeats in the catchy chorus, his eyelids moving like a mouth.

In another scene, Ryder eventually walks over and offers Rocky a plate of cookies. After her partner sees Ryder hanging with Rocky, he loses it. Rocky and his crew are swiftly carried away to a police station, where they have their mugshots taken and the artist raps from behind bars, throwing money at an elderly lawyer.

The video ends with Rocky running through the streets and firing a gun into the air, before he’s shown once again in the back of a cop car and wildly catapulting through the back window.

“You’re punch drunk in love, left me with a blackened eye/She don’t like those rapper guys, take me back,” Rocky raps in the outro. “This punch drunk in love (Love), left me with a blackened eye/Right now, I’d like to apologize, take me back.”

The video has Tim Burton written all over it with appearances from Elfman and Ryder — who both worked on Burton’s Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands — and its fantastical imagery. The video offers a look into his upcoming album, Don’t Be Dumb, which drops Jan. 16. Burton designed parts of the LP’s artwork and a subsequent film that’s set to accompany the record. He also told Vanity Fair that Elfman “scored a bunch of the songs” on the album as well.

According to a press release, the cover art “features six of Rocky’s signature personas, brought to life in Burton’s unmistakable style. Each character offers a window into unforgettable moments across the course of Rocky’s illustrious career.”

Kato's "Turn the Lights Off" made it to the top of a Spotify chart: "Never in a million years!"

The post How a Jon Hamm TikTok Meme Turned Kato’s 2009 EDM Track Into a Global Viral Hit appeared first on Rolling Stone India.

]]>

On TikTok, few things are more fun than a reaction video.

Over the past several weeks, EDM star Kato’s song “Turn the Lights Off,” featuring Jon Nørgaard, has gone viral on TikTok and Reels thanks to a trend built around a Jon Hamm-in-the-club scene. The resurgence has been so strong that the track entered the Canadian Hot 100 and topped Spotify’s Viral chart — 15 years after its initial release.

Kato says that “never in a million years” did he see his song coming back like this.

“This is so random. I never thought it could be possible to get a worldwide hit with a song we released 15 years ago,” Kato tells Rolling Stone. “But hey, I love it! I feel humbled by everything happening, and thankful that something we created 15 years ago can have a positive impact on people today.”

The TikTok trend sees users posting a phrase like, “When you’re petting a dog and someone says, ‘Wow, he usually doesn’t like anyone,’” or “When she reaches over to scratch the back of your head” with a video of themselves, before cutting to a close-up clip of Jon Hamm blissfully dancing in a club from the Apple TV+ series Your Friends & Neighbors.

“I’m still in some kind of shock. What’s happening right now is beyond imagination,” Kato adds. “It still feels like it’s a dream. Social media can really change people’s lives overnight. I’m overwhelmed by all the attention and new possibilities.”

One sound with the song has been used more than 40,000 times on the platform, with some videos reaching more than one million likes. Brett Gelman teased fans of Stranger Things by recreating the meme with the caption, “Me cause I know how it ends and you don’t.”

Kato says he found out about the trend after being tagged in some videos from Ukrainian and Russian profiles on Instagram, but he didn’t understand what the posts meant. He says he refrained from sharing the videos outside of fear that they were some sort of posts related to the country’s war. “I just watched this thing grow, and I was so happy to realize that the trend had a positive message, and to see it spread to the whole world,” he says.

Along with the Spotify Viral chart, the song also reached No. 74 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 for this week.

Kato himself recreated the meme trend, reacting to the news of the song topping the Spotify chart. “When you realize that the song you made 15 years ago…” he captioned the post. “Is the No. 1 viral song in the world!”

Kato says he’s a big fan of Jon Hamm — especially his role in Mad Men — and would “love to meet him someday.” He adds, “It´s an honor that my music ended up being a part of this trend, with a true legend and the positive reactions it has created so far.”

Kato now plans to continue touring the world, and “give something back” to all the people responsible for the song’s revival.

Rob and Michele Reiner’s children Jake and Romy broke their silence in a statement on Tuesday after their brother Nick was charged with first-degree murder on Tuesday following the death of his parents on Dec. 14.

“Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience,” read the statement. “They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”

The Reiners continued by sharing their gratitude for the support. “We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life,” the statement continued. “We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave.”

Sources previously told Rolling Stone that Rob and Michele’s daughter Romy found their bodies. The couple were found dead at their Los Angeles home Sunday afternoon, Dec. 14. Nick was arrested at 9:15 local time after Los Angeles Police Department investigators “determined that the Reiners were the victims of homicide,” and that Nick was “responsible for their deaths.”

If convicted as charged, Nick would face a maximum sentence of life in prison without possibility of parole or potentially the death penalty, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said at a press conference announcing the charges Tuesday.

Defense lawyer Alan Jackson confirmed to Rolling Stone on Tuesday that he is representing Nick and that his client had not been “medically cleared” to be transported to court as of Tuesday.

Rob Reiner, who played Meathead in the sitcom All in the Family before his run as the director of beloved 1980s movies This Is Spinal TapStand by MeWhen Harry Met Sally…, The Princess Bride, and A Few Good Men, previously worked with Nick on the 2016 movie Being Charlie. Nick co-wrote the script, loosely based on his struggles with heroin addiction, and Reiner directed the film.

According to Rolling Stone sources, Nick showed “antisocial behavior” during Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party on Dec. 13. The sources said Rob and Michele asked if they could bring Nick to the party out of concern for him and to “keep an eye on him.”

Perry Farrell has shared an apology for the onstage fight with his Jane’s Addiction bandmates last year. On Wednesday afternoon, the musician posted a statement to Instagram addressing the Boston incident, which spawned a lawsuit from the band over the summer.

“I’d like to address what happened on stage last year. I’ve reflected on it and know I didn’t handle myself the way I should have. I apologize to our patrons and my bandmates for losing my temper and for disrupting the show,” Farrell wrote in the post, which was shared as well by Jane’s Addiction. “Jane’s Addiction has been at the center of my life for decades. The band, the songs, the patrons, and the impact that we’ve had on music and culture mean more to me than any words I could ever possibly write down.”

Farrell continued: “My aim has always been to give our audience the best possible show, something real, honest and positive. In Boston, we fell short of that, and I’m truly sorry to everyone who was impacted.” He ended the post by thanking fans for their “continued love and support.”

The new statements come more than a year after the September 2024 onstage fight between Dave Navarro and Farrell that resulted in the cancellation of their reunion tour and the dissolution of the band.

Jane’s Addiction also shared a statement on their own, saying that the band “unilaterally determined it would be best to not continue the tou,r” adding that they “made inaccurate statements about Perry’s mental health, which we regret.”

“Today we are here to announce that we have come together one last time to resolve our differences, so that the legacy of Jane’s Addiction will remain the work the four of us created together,” the band wrote, seemingly clarifying that the band won’t make music as Jane’s Addiction without Farrell. “We now look forward to the future as we embark on our separate musical and creative endeavors.”

The band ended its note: “Jane’s Addiction will forever live in our hearts. We are proud of the music we created together.”

Members Navarro, Eric Avery, and Stephen Perkins sued Farrell earlier this year, accusing him of assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, and breach of contract. The suit alleged that the group lost over $10 million as a result of the tour’s cancellation and cessation of all band activities.

Farrell responded in September and listed 35 affirmative defenses, including claims that Navarro has “unclean hands,” “fails to state facts sufficient to constitute a cause of action against,” and “failed to exercise reasonable care and diligence to mitigate [the] alleged claims and damages.”

The group has given very few interviews over the last year, but Navarro spoke to Guitar Player in May. He told the outlet that the onstage altercation “forever destroyed the band’s life.” He added, “And there’s no chance for the band to ever play together again.”

A rep for the band said it had no additional comment. A lawyer for the group did not immediately respond to Rolling Stone‘s request for comment on whether the lawsuit will continue.

"The Winter Olympics?" asks Dua in the trailer. "It's going to be so cool"

Dua Lipa is teeing up the Winter Olympics in Milan. On Thursday, NBC Sports debuted a new ad teasing next February’s Winter Games, starring Lipa in all of her high-fashion glory.

After showing off some Italian language skills, Lipa walks through Milan’s Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II as she transforms it into a winter wonderland. “Milan, such a cool place,” she declares. “And when the Winter Olympics arrive, it’ll get even cooler when these incredible women hit the world stage.”

The trailer is soundtracked by Lipa’s hit “Training Season.” It showcases alpine skier Lindsey Vonn, whom Lipa calls “fearless,” the “graceful” figure skater Alysa Liu, “historic” alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin, and, of course, the “levitating” snowboarder Chloe Kim.

“They’ll put on quite a show!” says Lipa in the spot. “The Winter Olympics? It’s going to be so cool.”

The XXV Olympic Winter Games are set to kick off on Feb. 6, 2026, on NBC and Peacock.

“As a global music and fashion icon, Dua Lipa perfectly embodies Milan’s spirit — cool, confident, and world-class,” NBC Sports executive Joseph Lee said in a statement. “This piece captures both Milan’s magic and the power of many of the women athletes who will define the 2026 Winter Olympics.”

The new NBC Sports spot comes as Lipa wraps her Radical Optimism tour in Latin America. She’s set to play Bogotá, Colombia on Nov. 28, before three back-to-back shows at Mexico City’s Estadio GNP Seguros starting Dec. 1.

Also on Thursday, U.S. Olympian Ilia Malinin and U.S Paralympians Audrey Crowley and Jack Wallace made appearances on floats during the Thanksgiving Day Parade to promote the Games.

In other Winter Olympics news: Public Enemy rapper Flavor Flav will serve as the official hype man and sponsor of the U.S. bobsled and skeleton team at the Games in February. The Winter Olympics are set to come stateside, to Salt Lake City, in 2034.
