Garavani launched Valentino in 1960 and, over the course of more than six decades, saw the brand cemented as one of the most coveted in fashion history

Valentino Garavani, founder of the luxury fashion house Valentino, who outfitted historic figures from Princess Diana and Audrey Hepburn to Julia Roberts and Beyoncé, died in Rome on Monday, Jan. 19. He was 93.

“Valentino Garavani passed away today at his Roman residence, surrounded by his loved ones,” the foundation Fondazione Valentino Garavani e Giancarlo Giammetti confirmed on Instagram.

Garavani launched Valentino in 1960 and, over the course of more than six decades, saw the brand cement its status as one of the most coveted in fashion history. “A woman with taste,” Valentino responded in 2011 when asked what makes a perfect model for the brand. “She must know what she wants, because it’s very frustrating for me if somebody says, ‘Listen, I’ll let you do what you want; I’m there like a piece of glass, and you have to do something nice for me.’ I think it’s better if a woman comes and she discusses with you, and she has personality, so you are more attracted to her to make clothes. This is the kind of woman I love.”

Elizabeth Taylor wore a floor-length white Valentino gown to the premiere of Spartacus in 1961, after which she made a personal trip to the Valentino headquarters in Rome to demand seven more outfits. Garavani and Giammetti, his business partner and close friend, happily obliged. Valentino also supplied First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy with couture pieces as she mourned her husband, John F. Kennedy. Garavani later designed the wedding gown she wore when she remarried in 1968 and the black tiered gown she wore to the 1979 Met Gala.

Julia Roberts made red carpet history in 2001 when she attended the Academy Awards in a black-and-white Valentino couture dress from 1992. Halle Berry, Jennifer Lopez, Anne Hathaway, and more followed suit, often selecting Valentino looks for Hollywood’s biggest nights. In 2022, Florence Pugh made headlines after wearing a sheer, pink Valentino gown, and Dakota Johnson launched her first campaign as a global brand ambassador for the house in November 2025.

Garavani stepped down as creative director at Valentino in 2007, passing the torch quite briefly to Alessandra Facchinetti, who was succeeded by Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli in 2008. In 2024, Alessandro Michele made the move to Valentino from Gucci. “This place has such a specific story,” Michele told Business of Fashion. “That name, Valentino — it’s a real name, with real life, with real love. There is always Valentino somewhere with me.”

Valentino has its hooks in deep in the pop world, too. In 2022, Beyoncé attended the 2022 Academy Awards in Valentino haute couture just months before she would debut custom looks from the fashion house on the Renaissance world tour. Dua Lipa did the same on the Radical Optimism tour, wearing a lace bodysuit in that signature Valentino red. Sabrina Carpenter received her own custom red lace look for the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards and just this weekend wore a slip dress from Valentino’s Spring 2006 ready-to-wear collection for her surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live.

In 2008, the documentary film Valentino: The Last Emperor offered a glimpse inside the life Garavani lived, from his closest collaborators to his most treasured confidants. ”Valentino was one of the first designers to make himself the inspirational figure at the center of the story he was telling,” director Matt Tyrnauer previously said. “He is a born dreamer and the last true couturier, who let us in on his creative process and also let us in on the life he built around him to sustain this process. He lives as lavishly as his clients and set a standard for the industry. He shuts out all that is not beautiful, and we followed him around the world to capture that special world.”

Even after his retirement, Garavani continued to celebrate his own legacy. “I have always accepted with joy all the names and the titles that they have given me: The King, The Emperor, The Icon. I am Valentino,” he told The Talks in 2011. “I live in my own world. My life didn’t change; it’s always been the same. I still am like I was many, many years ago, the same person. I love to create clothes, I love beautiful things, I love beautiful houses, I love entertaining. If they want to call me an icon, okay, then I am an icon. What can I say?”

New album is set for a March 6 release date

The Harry Styles drought is officially over.

Today, Styles announced his new album, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally, set for a March 6 release. Produced by his longtime collaborator Kid Harpoon, the album, which will mark Styles’ fourth studio album and his first since 2022, will feature 12 new tracks.

Earlier this week, Styles teased the announcement with a series of billboards and posters plastered around the world, from New York and Berlin to São Paulo and Palermo. Each included a message to fans promising an anticipated reunion. “See you very soon,” one read, while another teased, “It’s all there waiting.”

The posters correlated with a new website from the musician, who also launched his previous two albums with cryptic sites. The landing page for WeBelongTogether.co features a looped video that captures a sea of fans dancing in a crowd. Some are holding each other, a few are clapping, others are pointing their phones at a stage we can’t see.

On Wednesday, fans who unquestioningly handed their contact information over to a HSHQ community number received a voice message. The audio file was only six seconds long, featuring a voice drawling the same phrase that appeared on the pop-ups, “We belong together.”

Styles left his fans with an emotional farewell in 2023 following the conclusion of Love on Tour. He composed a piano ballad to perform for them at the final show on the 169-date run, then reflected on the tour in a rare Instagram Story post. “It’s been the greatest experience of my entire life. I feel so incredibly full and happy. It’s all because of you,” he wrote. “You have given me memories that will last a lifetime, more than I could have ever dreamed of. Thank you for your time, your energy, and your love.”

Here we go again.

J. Cole Previews New Album ‘The Fall-Off’ With Introspective Teaser https://rollingstoneindia.com/j-cole-previews-new-album-the-fall-off-with-introspective-teaser/ Thu, 15 Jan 2026 05:53:31 +0000 https://rollingstoneindia.com/?p=169496

The rapper’s seventh studio album is scheduled to arrive on Feb. 6, a date that corresponds with a local nickname for his hometown, Fayetteville, North Carolina

The post J. Cole Previews New Album ‘The Fall-Off’ With Introspective Teaser appeared first on Rolling Stone India.

]]>

J. Cole revels in the simplicity of domestic life in the official announcement trailer for this seventh studio album, The Fall-Off, out Feb. 6.

The clip opens with the rapper rinsing his truck at a self-service car wash. The next scene zooms in on him dining solo at a local restaurant. There’s nothing high-scale or even particularly exciting about either. It’s all painstakingly normal, which seems to be the exact point.

The announcement features a voiceover that interrogates the idea of weaponizing rest. “Everything is supposed to go away eventually,” an unnamed man says. “You see this especially in like show business with famous actors, or like musicians, and it’s like, ‘Oh, this guy used to be famous and then he fell off. What happened?’ And they want to point to, they did this and this and they made some sort of mistake —instead of thinking that look, it’s kind of crazy they got famous in the first place.”

Cole has been famous for a while in a way that is perpetually undeniable, but not overstated. The rapper has no significant social media presence and isn’t often heard from. His most recent album, The Off-Season, arrived in 2021 as his first full-length in three years. And yet, in 2024, Cole was woven into the narrative of one of hip-hop’s biggest stories when he retreated from battle, while Kendrick Lamar and Drake continued to wage war against each other. More headlines followed in 2025, when he announced the conclusion of his long-running Dreamville festival.

Over the years, more and more time has passed between Cole’s releases. Between 2011 and 2016, he released four studio albums. Between 2016 and 2026, he’ll have released three, including The Fall-Off. Fans have pointed out that the Feb. 6 release date, or 2-6-26, corresponds with the local nickname for his hometown, Fayetteville, North Carolina, something he’s mentioned frequently throughout his catalog. As evidenced in the announcement, home is where the heart is for Cole. It’s a good constant to have when everything else remains volatile and uncertain.

“So few people reach that level that yes, of course, it’s not going to last forever because somebody else has to take that spot and that’s how show business has been since forever,” the voiceover continues. “But no, they always want to say, ‘Oh, that guy fell off.’ They want to look down on him for just going through the natural cycle of rising and falling.”

Cole seems happy to pass the torch, but remains wholly disinterested in extinguishing it. About one minute into the announcement, he stares down into the camera, and his simple life cuts away to a fiery screen reading The Fall-Off. As the bass kicks in, he raps, “He wanted love, but it only made more pain.”

Unsettled Debts and Sugar Babies Create Chaos in ‘Euphoria’ Season 3 Trailer https://rollingstoneindia.com/unsettled-debts-and-sugar-babies-create-chaos-in-euphoria-season-3-trailer/ Thu, 15 Jan 2026 05:20:14 +0000 https://rollingstoneindia.com/?p=169486

The HBO series returns on April 12 after more than four years

Euphoria is as chaotic as ever in the first official trailer for its long-awaited third season. The HBO series returns on April 12 after more than four years.

“A few years after high school, I don’t know if life was exactly what I wished,” Rue (Zendaya) says in the preview. Now in her early twenties, she’s still mixed up in the drug game, though it seems her role may have shifted from excessive user to a middleman on the sales side. Let’s hope it’s a well-paid gig, at least, because she has some unsettled debts.

Laurie (Martha Kelly), the drug dealer Rue crossed in Season Two before escaping from a bathroom window, has come back to collect. “You owe me money,” she tells her. Laurie tracked Rue down at the smoke shop she’s presumably been working out of — and she brought backup. Rue, as we know, has never been great at facing high-stakes scenarios head-on. She typically prefers to deflect and run, but that isn’t an option here. Her sponsor, Ali (Coleman Domingo), urges her to lean on her faith, though there’s a question of how much it can really help her now.

Naturally, Rue is captured by Laurie again, only to later become a bargaining chip in an exchange with another nefarious figure (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) who apparently oversees some kind of escorting empire. “It’s not that weird, every girl I meet is a sugar baby,” Maddie (Alexa Demie) says, but not her. “I’m not a fucking hooker.” Jules (Hunter Schafer) might be, though, and the character Rosalía has been hired to play is a stripper at the Silver Slipper. There’s some gray area everyone seems to exist within now.

Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) is an OnlyFans content creator, much to the disgust of her fiancé, Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi). “I work all day,” he says. “My bride-to-be is spread-eagled on the internet.” The state of his character arc isn’t pristine, either. Nate is now running a construction company, but can be seen in a brief scene, his eyes filled with terror. He looks like he’s been caught red-handed. Cassie’s sister Lexi (Maude Apatow) seems to be doing OK, at least.

Euphoria Season Three will also see the return of Eric Dane, Dominic Fike, Chloe Cherry, Nika King, and more. It will be the first season of the show since the death of Angus Cloud, who played Fezco, in July 2023.

The latest musical release from the supergroup is scheduled to arrive on March 20

2026 is the year of BTS. The supergroup will mark their live return with an extensive tour launching in April 2026 and running through March 2027, with additional dates to be announced. The trek arrives in support of their upcoming musical return, scheduled to arrive on March 20 as part of their comeback following an extended hiatus.

The BTS world tour will kick off in Goyang, South Korea, on April 9. The band will spend multiple nights in each city on the trek, which includes stops in Tokyo, Mexico City, Las Vegas, Busan, London, Paris, Chicago, Toronto, East Rutherford, Buenos Aires, Sydney, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Manila, and more. Specific venues for each city have not been announced, though the routing suggests the band will be booking stadiums.

ARMY Membership holders will have access to tickets beginning Jan. 22 and 23 local time. A general sale will follow on Jan. 24 across all regions.

BTS has been in the studio working on new music since July, promising an album that will “reflect each member’s thoughts and ideas.” At the beginning of the year, RM shared, “We’ve waited more earnestly than anyone else,” with Jimin adding, “The year we’ve been waiting for has finally arrived. V teased, “In 2026, we’ll make even more good memories, so look forward to it!”

Fans have been anticipating the album and accompanying live show since last year. “We’re approaching the album with the same mindset we had when we first started,” BTS shared in July. “We’re also planning a world tour alongside the new album. We’ll be visiting fans all around the world, so we hope you’re as excited as we are.”

The members of BTS had a chance to sharpen their skills even during their time away from the group. Outside of completing their mandatory military service requirements, V, Suga, Jin, Jungkook, RM, Jimin, and J-Hope also pursued solo endeavors as musicians. Suga, Jin, and J-Hope also headlined respective solo tours. “I sought advice from him on the overall structure of the tour,” J-Hope told Rolling Stone last year about discussing solo touring with Suga. “As for the performances, we each bring a unique set of strengths to the stage, so I focused on shaping the production to reflect what I wanted to explore in various ways.” Now, they’re bringing their lessons back to the band.

"I was rejected and disappointed that my voice wasn't good enough," singer EJAE said about her start as a K-pop trainee. "Now, I'm here as a singer and a songwriter"

EJAE delivered an emotional speech as she accepted the award for Best Original Song, Motion Picture, at the 2026 Golden Globes. EJAE, Mark Sonnenblick, and 24Ido took the stage to receive the trophy for the KPop Demon Hunters hit “Golden.”The win makes EJAE the first Korean-American to be awarded at the Golden Globes.

“When I was a little girl, I worked tirelessly for 10 years to fulfill one dream: to become a K-pop idol. I was rejected and disappointed that my voice wasn’t good enough, so I leaned on songs and music to get through it,” EJAE said onstage. “Now, I’m here as a singer and a songwriter.”

She continued: “It’s a dream come true to be part of a song that is helping other girls, other boys, and everyone of all ages to get through hardship and accept themselves. So thank you, Golden Globes, for accepting my voice and our voice.”

Sonnenblic also shared a thank you to Netflix and Sony, as well as their teams. “This award goes to the people who have had their doors closed on them. I can confidently say that rejection is redirection. Never give up, it’s never too late to shine like you’re born to be,” she concluded, referencing the lyrics of “Golden.”

“Golden” appeared in the Best Original Song — Motion Picture category alongside “Dream as One” from Avatar: Fire and Ash, written by Miley Cyrus, Simon Franglen, Mark Ronson, and Andrew Wyatt; “I Lied to You” from Sinners, written by Ludwig Göransson and Raphael Saadiq; “Train Dreams” from Train Dreams, written by Nick Cave and Bryce Dessner; and “No Place LIke Home” and “The Girl in the Bubble” from Wicked: For Good, both written by Stephen Schwartz.

EJAE performs “Golden” alongside Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami as the singing voices of the fictional act HUNTR/X in KPop Demon Hunters. “I really resonated with Rumi,” EJAE told Rolling Stone about her character last year. “She’s such a perfectionist and trying to hide her shame, hide her flaws. And that’s a huge part of when you’re training. You’re trying to put your best foot forward. ‘Golden’ really means a lot to me, because I feel like at that time, I needed a song like that.”

KPop Demon Hunters scored two additional nominations at the 2026 Golden Globes beyond the nod for “Golden.” The popular Netflix release landed in the running for Best Motion Picture, Animated and Cinematic, and Box Office Achievement.

“Golden” has spent 28 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at Number One. Next month, the song has a chance to win in five categories at the 2026 Grammy Awards, including Song of the Year. “To say this was my dream is an understatement,” EJAE wrote on Instagram when the nominations were revealed. “This wouldn’t be possible without the fans of the movie who have shown us so much support.”

Twenty One Pilots: More Than We Ever Imagined

Twenty One Pilots will revive their Clancy World Tour for a limited time only with a concert film capturing one of the biggest performances of their career. Twenty One Pilots: More Than We Ever Imagined premieres in theaters worldwide on Feb. 26, with select theaters offering screenings in IMAX beginning Feb. 25. The film will bring the alt duo’s sold-out show at Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City to the big screen.

“We have never captured a show quite like this,” Twenty One Pilots’ Josh Dunn and Tyler Joseph wrote on Instagram about the February 2025 concert. More Than We Ever Imagined was directed by Mark C. Eshlema, who can attest to the band’s statement.

“I have spent the better part of the last 16 years of my life following Twenty One Pilots around the world,” he shared in a separate statement. “I have seen them play clubs that were in the basements of bigger clubs for an audience made up of only the other bands on the bill. I have seen them play those clubs as if they were on a festival stage during a headline slot and then quietly drag their gear up the steps and into a trailer that limped behind our touring van. They would chat for hours, fine tuning the show basically no one saw. Their fingers never leave the pulse of the performance; they swear by preparation and a vision.”

Eshlema added, “For ‘More Than We Ever Imagined,’ we were given the opportunity to capture two perspectives of a Twenty One Pilots performance: over 20 cameras centered around the fans experiencing their show and, the second, the perspective I have had all these years leading up to that sold out stadium in Mexico City, a camera following Tyler and Josh as they take the fundamentals of their show and apply to one of the biggest stages.”

Tickets for the theatrical release of More Than We Ever Imagine will be on sale beginning Jan. 15.

“From building an audience one fan at a time to becoming a global touring force, Twenty One Pilots continue to redefine the magic of concert tours,” said Kymberli Frueh, EVP of Programming and Content Acquisitions for Trafalgar Releasing. “This all-new film marks their second time bringing a concert experience to cinemas — and their first with IMAX — delivering the scale, sound, and shared energy that make it feel as close to being at the live show as possible.”

“The Fate of Ophelia” has dethroned “Anti-Hero” as Taylor Swift‘s longest-running Number One single. The Life of a Showgirl single returns to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for a ninth week. “Anti-Hero” previously spent eight weeks at Number One and 53 total weeks on the chart.

“The Fate of Ophelia” slipped out of the Top 10 and down to Number 28 at the onset of the holiday streaming rush, but returns alongside “Opalite,” which moves from Number 54 to Number Eight. Swift has another entry on the chart with “Elizabeth Taylor.”

The Life of a Showgirl has spent 12 weeks at Number One on the Billboard 200, but is still six weeks away from breaking the career record set with The Tortured Poets Department, which remains in the top 50 after 88 weeks. Midnights, Folklore, 1989 (Taylor’s Version)Lover, Evermore, Red (Taylor’s Version), and Reputation also remain on the Billboard 200.

In November, Swift shared “The Fate of Ophelia (The Chainsmokers Remix).” The DJ duo celebrated the release, commenting on Instagram, “This is truly an honor. we love u T.” Swift has also released the “Loud Luxury Remix” and “Alone in my Tower Acoustic Version” renditions of the song.

In December, Rolling Stone named “The Fate of Ophelia” one of the best songs of 2025, writing, “‘The Fate of Ophelia’ is Taylor’s biggest Swiftspearean drama since ‘Love Story,’ rewriting Hamlet the way her teenage self rewrote Romeo and Juliet. Just as she did in ‘Love Story,’ she goes back in time to rescue a tragic young heroine and give her a new story — except instead of country twang, she goes for thrillingly exuberant synth-pop. Your English teacher took this Bardcore romance to Number One for seven weeks (and counting) — that’s just her way of keeping it one hundred on the land, the sea, the sky.”

Taylor Swift prepares to say goodbye to the Eras Tour in a new teaser for the final two episodes of The End of an Era. Scheduled to premiere on Dec. 23, the concluding segments of the docuseries celebrate the singer-songwriter’s friends and family.

“Part of the Eras Tour is a celebration of my family,” Swift says in the clip, which premiered via Good Morning America. Her mom, Andrea Smith, draws a connection back to her mother, Marjorie, the namesake of a beloved Folklore deep cut. Swift performed “Marjorie” each night on the tour, singing, “If I didn’t know better/I’d think you were still around/I know better/But I still feel you all around.”

In another scene, Swift celebrates her friendships with Gracie Abrams. “There’s an undeniable bond between friends who make music,” she says. Abrams opened for Swift on several stops on the Eras Tour, and the pair performed together on a handful of occasions. In Vancouver, Abrams joined Swift for a mashup of “I Love You, I’m Sorry” and “Last Kiss.”

“I was thinking about what to do tonight and I was thinking about how much of a family this tour has become to me,” Swift said at the show. “You guys met my friend Gracie, right? She’s on tour with me and she’s an artist I really respect and an artist I’ve collaborated with, and she’s also my friend … There’s something very different about standing on stage with someone who knows you and who gets you, and it just feels so safe and so cozy.”

Family might be forever, but tours aren’t. “The only thing left is to close the book,” Swift says in the teaser. The End of an Era was originally scheduled to conclude on Dec. 26 with episodes five and six, but the release date was bumped up to Dec. 23 “as an early gift to fans around the world,” Disney+ revealed last week.

Brat Summer lives on at Sundance Film Festival, where Aidan Zamiri’s The Moment starring Charli XCX will make its premiere. The film is based on an original idea by the musician and interrogates the layered complexities of pop stardom. Following “a rising pop star [that] navigates the complexities of fame and industry pressure while preparing for her arena tour debut,” it imagines how Charli’s blockbuster album era might have played out had she made different decisions.

Balancing out the metafiction of The Moment, Sundance 2026 will also see the premiere of Antiheroine, an “unfiltered and unapologetic” documentary about Courtney Love. Directed by Edward Lovelace and James Hall, a logline for the film reads, “Now sober and set to release new music for the first time in over a decade, Courtney is ready to reveal her story.”

More music history will be captured through the world premiere of Tamra Davis’ documentary The Best Summer, an “all-access view inside an era-defining moment in music” with behind-the-scenes footage featuring Beastie Boys, Sonic Youth, Foo Fighters, Pavement, Rancid, Beck, The Amps, and Bikini Kill. Davis previously helmed 2010’s Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child, and directed Britney Spears in Crossroads. She also produced the Kathleen Hanna documentary The Punk Singer in 2013.

The singer and songwriter Marianne Faithfull, who died earlier this year at age 78, will see her story captured in Broken English. The film from Jane Pollard and Iain Forsyth premiered at the Venice International Film Festival this summer, but will make its U.S. debut at Sundance. Broken English takes its title from Faithfull’s 1979 New Wave comeback album.

“Made with her full involvement, Broken English is an intimate and unflinching exploration of a fractured yet unbreakable life shaped by fame, creativity and relentless public scrutiny,” a description of the film reads. Broken English stars Tilda Swinton, George MacKay, Sophia Di Martino, Zawe Ashton, and Calvin Demba. It features appearances from Nick Cave, Warren Ellis, Jehnny Beth, Courtney Love, Suki Waterhouse, and Beth Orton.

Sundance 2026 will see director Joanna Natasegara make her documentary feature debut with The Disciple, which provides a look inside the making of Wu-Tang Clan’s supposedly one-of-a-kind album Once Upon a Time in Shaolin. “It’s like the Mona Lisa,” RZA told Rolling Stone about the album in 2018. “It’s got its own folklore.”

“An outsider fueled by relentless determination works his way into the inner circle of the Wu-Tang Clan, where his ambition and creativity converge in the making of an album poised to ignite global controversy,” the logline for the release reads.

William Greaves will take the festival back to a different moment in time with Once Upon a Time in Harlem. The film, which as of this September was still incomplete, according to The New Yorkersurfaces footage from a 1972 reunion of figures from the Harlem Renaissance, which gathered passionate and creative minds with nuanced and critical insights into race, politics, art, and more. Greaves helmed the event and captured it all on film, but died in 2014 at the age of 87 without ever releasing the footage.

His wife, Louise Archambault Greaves, chipped away at the project until her death in 2023. Once Upon a Time in Harlem was then passed on to the couple’s son David, who directed the version premiering next year. Figures that appeared at Greaves’s party, and made it into the film, include Eubie Blake, James Van Der Zee, Gerri Major, Jean Blackwell Hutson, Richard Bruce Nugent, and others.

Also premiering at Sundance 2026 is Paralyzed by Hope: The Maria Bamford Story. Directed by Judd Apatow and Neil Berkeley, the documentary builds on the comedian’s candid explorations of mental health. “Blurring the line between performance and personal crisis, comedian Maria Bamford turns her mental health journey into material that’s riotously funny and ultimately inspiring,” a description of the film reads. “What emerges is a portrait of an artist transforming vulnerability into creative strength through honesty.”
